Sometimes we don’t like to see what’s right in front of us, and thank the media for helping pull the curtain across. I believe there’s probably a hard reality ahead when we can’t find and/or take enough oil.
Parenting might just be a metaphor for government and society. If the kid’s making a pipe bomb, the parent ought to know. Of course, as a society, we’re not all children, although most of us act that way. It’s a delicate balance knowing when to knock, when to just walk in, and when to kick the door in. Afterwards, however, it’s really easy to tell if that action was a good idea or not.
I believe there’s life out there. Probably a whole lot of it. It is a big universe. But I don’t think we’re getting “visited,” although it makes for the occasional good movie story. I’d love for an encounter in my lifetime, but I don’t think I’ll start holding my breath just yet. The abductions, crop circles, etc. make for good stories but lousy science. Still, it’s fun to pretend…
While long held to be true that giraffes can’t swim, it has been proven mathematically that they can. Seems like a field test would be in order.
If they’re going to make schools teach intelligent design, then I think it’s time to lobby the church to teach the scientific method. Perhaps we could also get the House or Senate to teach ethics and the moral code, too. You know, spread that educational responsibility around a little more.
If the new policy is to have those involved investigate themselves, then I’d like that to hold true on an individual level, too. “Officer, I’ll look into this speeding issue and get back to you on it.”
Edit: I guess today’s strip would be funnier if it weren’t already true.
Common sense should come to mind when using any product or software, but clearly some folks are less common in their sense than others. It’s a good thing the directions didn’t take her across a body of water – especially if she couldn’t swim. Or maybe then we would never have heard of this.
